GPT3 is taking over…

On November 18, 2021, OpenAI announced the broadened availability of its OpenAI API service, which enables developers to build applications based on GPT-3. Previously, developers had to sign up for a waitlist, and the availability was limited.

The OpenAI Playground is a web-based tool that makes it easy to test prompts and get familiar with how the API works. With the Playground, you can start using GPT-3, GPT-4, and more without writing a single line of code – you provide the prompt in plain English. Just about everything you could do by calling the API, you can also do in the Playground.

OpenAI offers distinct platforms: OpenAI Playground vs. ChatGPT. While both OpenAI Playground and ChatGPT are valuable tools, they serve different purposes;

  • OpenAI Playground is geared more towards technical research and development, allowing users to experiment with different machine learning models and fine-tune them with custom data sets. It’s particularly useful in developing applications that rely on machine learning.
  • ChatGPT, is designed to engage in conversations with the user. It generates responses to user prompts using natural language and can perform various writing and translation tasks. It’s a user-friendly tool that requires no technical expertise, making it accessible to many users.
